'Lime Mint Refresher' Iced Tea Recipe

This is so simple to make!

The combination of Spearmint and Love me Lime Fruit Infusion is a match made in heaven.  The mint lifts the mellow fruity lime flavours to create a refreshing and uplifting tea.  

It is:

• Caffeine FREE.

• No added sugar! (the only sugar comes from the pineapple and apple fruit pieces in the tea).

• Full of antioxidants from the Fruits and Herbs.

To make one glass:

You will need:

• 2tsps 'Love Me Lime' Fruit Infusion
• 1/2 tsp Stevia leaves
• 1/2 tsp Spearmint Leaves

Put 2 teaspoons of 'Love Me Lime',  1/2 tsp Stevia leaves and 1/2 tsp Spearmint leaves together into a 250ml mug using a tea strainer or infuser. Pour boiled water over the leaves and infuse for 5 minutes, then remove the infuser, cover the tea and cool in the fridge.

When the tea is cool and you are ready to continue making your iced tea, put a good handful of ice into a tall glass (approximately 400mls). Pour the now cool naturally sweetened Love Me Lime and Spearmint Infusion over the ice into the glass.

And that is it!

If you are too impatient to wait for the tea to cool down, you can use it straight away and just use a bigger glass with more ice. But the ice will melt quicker and the flavours will be diluted.

To make one Jug

This recipe was made using our 1.5L Iced Tea Jugs, which has a built in infuser.

You will need:

• 8-9 tsps 'Love Me Lime' Fruit Infusion

Gingerbread Man Strainer

Gingerbread Man Rooibos Tea

Stevia rebaudiana is a South American herb with a very sweet taste.

Commonly used as a natural alternative to sugar or other forms of sweeteners.

As Stevia does not affect the body the same as sugar it appears to maintain a healthy blood sugar level, and therefore would be suitable as a sweetner for those on carbohydrate controlled diets, diabetics and those wishing to maintain their blood sugar levels or avoid sugar and other sweetners.

Traditionally used in South America to sweeten Yerba Mate.

1/4 teaspoon for a cup of hot tea/infusion to start with. In our iced tea recipes we use 1/2 a teaspoon  per cup,  as when the iced tea has cooled it seems to lose some of its sweetness. Please also remember the longer you are brewing the infusion with added Stevia, the sweeter it will be.

'Tropical Sunset' Iced Tea Recipe

This is the perfect iced tea for summer - coconut, pineapple and all things tropical!  A beautiful pink colour and delightful flavour.

To make one glass:

'Minty Apple Green' Iced Tea Recipe

This unusual combination of ingredients creates the most divine iced tea recipe.It is a light and very refreshing, thirst quenching drink, you could just gulp and gulp!

A mellow taste of mint and apple with a hint of sweet, but not too sweet. 

It is:

• Low in Caffeine
• Full of antioxidants from the Green Tea
• Low in sugar (the only sugar comes from the added Apple Juice).

To make one glass:

You will need:

• 2tsps 'Minty Green Gunpowder' Herbal Infusion
• 1/2 tsp Stevia leaves
• 1/4 Cup Cloudy Apple Juice

Put 2 teaspoons of 'Minty Green Gunpowder' and 1/2 tsp Stevia leaves together into a 250ml mug using a tea strainer or infuser.  Pour boiled water over the leaves to 3/4 full and then top cup up with cold water. (Adding the cold water prevents tea from becoming bitter). Leave to infuse for 3 minutes, then remove the infuser, cover the tea and cool in the fridge.

When the tea is cool and you are ready to continue making your iced tea, put a good handful of ice into a tall glass (approximately 400mls).  Pour the now cool naturally sweetened Minty Green Gunpowder infusion over the top of the ice and add 1/4 cup of apple juice.

To make one glass:

You will need:

• 2tsps 'Red Citrus Zing' Herbal Infusion
• 1/2 tsp Stevia leaves
• 1/4 Cup Cranberry Juice (We used McCoys)
• Lemon Juice

Put 2 teaspoons of 'Red Citrus Zing' and 1/2 tsp Stevia leaves together into a 250ml mug using a tea strainer or infuser.  Pour boiled water over the leaves and leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes, then remove the infuser, cover the tea and cool in the fridge.

When the tea is cool and you are ready to continue making your iced tea, put a good handful of ice into a tall glass (approximately 400mls).  Pour the now cool naturally sweetened Red Citrus Zing infusion over the top of the ice, add 1/4 cup of cranberry juice and a squeeze of lemon juice over the top.

To make one Jug:

When the tea is cool and you are ready to continue making your iced tea, pour in approximately 315mls (About a cup and a quarter) of cranberry Juice into the jug with the infused tea.  Then add the juice of 1/2 a lemon or more to taste.

You can add some ice to the top of the jug if you wish, or serve in glasses that have plenty of ice in them.

You will get approximatley 4-5 large glasses of tea from this jug.

Variations:

If you wish to have a nearly sugar free (I say nearly because there is apple and beetroot in the original infusion, and they have small amounts of natural sugars), version of this just leave out the cranberry juice.

This is a larger than normal sized Mesh Ball infuser with chain, pictured on the left, and is about 6.5cm in diameter.

The standard size of a mesh ball infuser is about 5cm diameter. 

This larger sized mesh ball strainer is excellent if you are a herbal tea fan or perhaps white or green teas.  These leaves tend to be larger and take up more space when infusing.

The larger strainer allows for more space for the leaves to open up and for the water to get to them to draw out the flavour.

They are easy to use - just open up by lifting the clip at the side of the mesh ball, put your leaves in, close up again and pop into your cup or teapot.  Just like a metal teabag really!

Storage

Keep away from light, moisture and heat - preferably in a cool dark cupboard or pantry.  On the window sill is not ideal!

Generally herbs dont have as longer shelf life as tea due to the high content of volatile oils (these are the oils that often carry the health benefits).  However if you store your herbal blends properly they will be effective for 6-10months. 

How many cups will I get?

1 heaped teaspoon of the herbal blends is approximately 1-2 grams so you will get around 25 50 cups from a 50gm tin.  It really depends how strong you like your tea and how big your heaped teaspoon is!

Detox me is primarily made up of roots and seeds which means it is heavier than leaves - use half a teaspoon and it will go further.

Use your Bamboo Matcha Whisk to slowly start stirring to blend the water and tea powder together and break up any lumps.  Once it is fully dissolved you can then start to whisk the tea until it foams slightly. 

At this stage you can add more water - about another 100mls.

Or if you would like instead of water you can add warm milk or soy milk.  Or for a special Matcha latte treat add foamed milk.

The milk will bring out the sweetness of the Matcha powder and the combination is wonderful.  You may add sugar or honey as well - traditionally Matcha green tea is eaten with a sweet treat as the sweetness really brings out the flavours.

Play around with the quanitities to suit your own taste - you may like it stronger or weaker. 

It should not be an overly bitter drink - if it is this means the water you have used is too hot.
